2016 Toyota Corolla, 80,000 miles. I'm driving up a hill towards the freeway and my car slows and comes to a stop. I try to turn the car on and it won't turn on. Get it towed to a mechanic and they say the transmission failed and it'll be $8,000 to repair. This transmission failure came out of the blue and my car isn't even covered for it because my warranty expired at 75,000 miles. Contacted Toyota USA and they said my car isn't covered under the cvt recall of certain 2014-2017 Corollas so I'm left with this mysterious transmission defect which put me in a dangerous situation as I was trying to head onto the freeway!.

Transmission Failure problem of the 2015 Toyota Corolla 2

I received a recall notice in the mail from Toyota - reference id jsd. The notice stated there was an issue with programming within the ecu that could potentially lead to issues with the car's transmission that would cause the transmission to not work properly and would also cause the vehicle to lose speed. Shortly after receiving the notice I experienced issues with my car's transmission while driving around speeds of 35-40 mph. Around these speeds, transmission would randomly downshift to a low gear and would not provide any power to engine. Nothing could be done to correct the issue while driving - any attempt to accelerate would just rev the engine to high rpm - and I would have to pull off to the side of the road and completely stop the car before the car would correctly drive. This problem occurred multiple times that morning. These first experiences occurred while driving on city streets. I called Toyota dealership to bring car in for service under the recall notice the same morning. While driving to the dealership on the highway I experienced the same issues. Toyota called me later that day asking if I had experienced any issues, and I told them about the experiences I had that morning while driving to work and while driving to the dealership. They told me the car was unsafe to drive due to the transmission issues. Later in the month they informed me that the issues were unrelated to the recall and that the transmission failed on its own so nothing was covered. No warning lights were illuminated on the dash, and there were no prior warning signs of any issues to alert me that something may be wrong with the transmission.

Dec 28, 2017  The K313 CVTi-S in the Corolla never reported such problems plus it was far from first CVT from Toyota (Aisin). It's almost like saying 'stay away from cars as GM. Ford, Audi and even Tesla had some of their cars catching fire'. And yes, you can get a Camry with a CVT: the hybrid (not belt and pulleys but planetary though).

Transmission Failure problem of the 2004 Toyota Corolla 5

My manual transmission failed this evening. Fortunately I was only an eighth of a mile from home and was able to use my momentum to safely get off the road. I heard a loud pop, then the clutch began to grind horrifically. I was able to bring the car to a stop, but unable to shift out of neutral. The front axle is completely siezed, and the car is inoperable. I had the car flatbeded to my mechanic, the flat bed driver had to winch the vehicle on to the truck. My mechanic took one look and informed me that I will need to replace the clutch and manuel transmission and that this is a known issue with 2003 and 2004 Toyota Corollas. Why was no recall or consumer notice issued for this manual transmission failure? I had my coworker in the car as well.

Transmission Failure problem of the 2010 Toyota Corolla 6

Upon purchasing this car from carmax on 02/2012 there had been constant transmission issues that were not being resolved from the dealership. I had gone in and tried having my transmission looked at three times a the carmax dealership all of which told me that nothing was wrong with my car. On 07/26/2014 my 2010 Toyota's transmission failed and now needs a new one. This out of pocket expense is ridiculous for a car that was built in 2010 and for myself owning it for two years. Both the Toyota dealership and carmax dealership are not willing help assist the problem. I will never purchase a Toyota car again.

Transmission Failure problem of the 2003 Toyota Corolla 7

I was driving on the freeway at about 60mph when the transmission failed. It felt like there was something stuck under the wheels of my car. I was able to pull off the road safely. It wouldn't go into any gear after that, but luckily, I was in neutral so it could be towed. The shop I took it to said this is a very common problem for the 2003 Corollas with the 5-speed manual transmission. It cost me $3,700 for a new transmission (and labor) from Toyota, which will most likely end up with the same failure. I am the original owner and my car has 92,000 miles on it. I have kept up on all the maintenance; there is no reason this should have happened. I have mailed a complaint to Toyota corporation and am awaiting a response. This vehicle is unsafe for the road and should be recalled.

Transmission Failure problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla 10

In summer, Corolla experience harsh shifting and indicator light came on. Ecm replaced in July - approx one month before recall occurred. At the time of correction, car was at nearly 91,000 miles - research ecm issues online, contacted Toyota and they stated since it was out of warranty they had no obligation to cover ecm repair. Recall released within one month of ecm repair. Less than 60 days later, took Corolla back to dealership. Car still experience harsh shifting. After paying $225 for a transmission flush, and dealer shifting transmission manually, the dealer stated ecm works fine, transmission will need to be replaced at +$3k. Researched and identified similar problem in Toyota rav4 - ecm failure led to transmission failure. Filing complaint because I think Toyota needs to pay for my new transmission. At current time, transmission not fixed. . Want an explanation, if the component that tells the transmission to shift accurately isn't working, then why doesn't Toyota recognize that the transmission has the potential to not work properly - if problem occurred in rav4, why not Corollas? now that ecm is fixed, transmission is still damaged from prior ecm failure. Transmission Failure problem of the 2003 Toyota Corolla 14

Vehicle lost power when exiting one highway to enter another. In addition, a loud sound started to come from the engine compartment. Moved vehicle out of traffic and drove very slowly. Prior to failure there were some sounds from the transmission but no loss of power or trouble getting the vehicle into to gear. Considered it lucky that the transmission did not seize up in the middle of traffic and cause an accident. I was able to drive the vehicle, slowly, to a repair facility before some of the gears became inoperable. Mechanic is in the process of replacing the transmission, there are many reports of transmission failures for 2003 5 speed manual transmissions on the internet, especially in canada. Most failures are occurring after the warranty period expires but under 100,000 miles. My mechanic is saving the old transmission.

Transmission on car fails without any kind of warnings. At high speeds, it does not allow driver enough time to pull-over. In case of heavy traffic this will become a huge risk for driver and other cars behind. This will likely cause a major accident. I was lucky both times since there was no traffic when transmission failed. Manufacturer has refused a re-purchase. Vehicle is unsafe for driving and needs to go through a thorough inspection.
